Egypt Residency and Work Authorization
Video Transcript
Looking to live and work in Egypt? Here's what you need to know about residency and work authorization in under a minute. If you're planning to stay in Egypt for over 90 days—for work, study, or permanent residence—you must apply for a residence visa, valid up to five years and renewable. After ten years of continuous residence, you may be eligible to apply for Egyptian citizenship. To legally work in Egypt, you need both a work permit and a work visa. This process is employer-sponsored and requires a valid passport, recent passport photo, academic or professional credentials, the employer's incorporation documents, a tax ID, an HIV-negative medical certificate, and justification for hiring a foreign national. You’ll also need security clearance from the National Security Agency. Work permits are typically issued for one year and can be renewed for up to three years. The employer submits your application to the Ministry of Manpower. You may enter Egypt on a temporary or tourist visa and convert it later. Start the application early, as the full process—including medical and security checks—can take several weeks. So in short: for long stays or employment, secure a residence visa and work permit, gather the required documents, and allow time for approvals before arrival.
