When Was the Tourist E-Visa System Started?

Egypt launched the electronic visa or e-visa system in November 2017 and formally implemented it on December 3, 2017. The new system was introduced to ensure a convenient and fast-paced travel authorisation system to facilitate international travellers. 

Through the e-visa system, tourists and travellers from over 74 countries, including the EU, UK, Switzerland, and the USA, can obtain a short-term travel permit to enter Egypt for tourism purposes.

Egypt E-Visa Eligibility Criteria

Travellers from over 74 nationalities can enter Egypt for tourist travel if they meet the Egyptian government’s eligibility criteria. This includes:

  • The applicant possesses a valid passport issued by an Egypt e-visa-eligible country.
  • The passport should have at least 6 months of validity remaining at the time of the traveller’s arrival in Egypt.
  • The traveller’s stay must never exceed 30 days.
  • Their travel purpose should be strictly tourism.
  • They must use the same passport when travelling to Egypt that they used to apply for the e-visa.
  • The applicant must provide basic information about at least one location or address where they will be staying or accommodated when completing the e-visa application form.
  • After arriving in Egypt, the travellers will need to present their tickets for the remaining flights or cruises.

What are your E-Visa Options?

There are 2 types of Egyptian tourist e-visas offered by the country: a single-entry and a multiple-entry e-visa

  • Single Entry: Single-entry, as the name suggests, allows the traveller to enter Egypt once and stay for up to 30 days. After this period, they must leave and cannot re-enter without obtaining a new e-visa. This eVisa remains valid for 90 days
  • Multiple Entry: On the other hand, a multiple-entry e-visa allows the traveller to enter Egypt multiple times. Regardless of the number of entries, your stay duration must not exceed 30 days. This eVisa remains valid for 180 days.
